Growing up I was always active and along with my keen interest in sport; I’ve always had an interest in the whole body – inside and out. I have recently completed my training in nutritional therapy so that I can offer my massage and pilates clients nutrition advice for a complete wellbeing approach to my Core & Body Care services.

Gut Health is a hot topic and understanding it and why it is important is key to healthy living. If we do not have enough good bacteria in our gut, our gut wall will break down and some bad bacteria will produce toxins (endotoxins) and these will travel from our gut to all parts of the body causing inflammation, which leads to insulin resistance and then metabolic dysfunction.


Oxytocin and its receptors are found in the gut...healing mental and emotional trauma. 90% of our happy hormone, serotonin is produced in the gut and it also helps with the regulation of oestrogen and progesterone hormones. The deep sleep hormone melatonin is also produced in our gut as well as our calming hormone GABA.

WHAT DOES YOUR GUT MICROBIOME DO?

The gut microbiome plays a very important role in your health by helping control digestion and benefiting your immune system and many other aspects of health. An imbalance of unhealthy and healthy microbes in the intestines may contribute to weight gain, high blood sugar, high cholesterol and other disorders.


Functions of microbiome include immunity, digestion and metabolism, brain health, hormone production and genetics. The breakdown of food into micronutrients for proper absorption, maintains integrity of the gut wall, responsible for synthesising some types of vitamins and nutrients and assists in the metabolic process.

WHAT CAN AFFECT GOOD GUT HEALTH?

Key culprits are a poor diet and medication. Antibiotics, anti inflammatories and chemotherapy are all examples of medicines and treatments that can contribute to poor gut health. Improving gut health leads to better sleep, assisted weight loss, improved joint pain, reduced sugar cravings, improved mood, helps aches and pains, improved hormone balance, improved sports performance, supports health (heart and circulation).

NUTRITION PROGRAMMES

21 DAY PURIFY PROGRAMME

Helps to reset the gut and detox the liver. The programme is supported with online videos, recipes and a wellbeing questionnaire. Improving metabolic dysfunction through a healthy microbiome and digestive tract.

MINI RESET PROGRAMME

A 21 day introductory ‘reset’ programme into healthy eating to kickstart the gut (does not include the full detox). The mini reset can be done before the full 21 day purify programme or as a stand alone programme.

SUPPLEMENTS

Advice on every day supplements to support the internal system on a day to day basis e.g. Omega 3, collagen, protein powder etc.
